Help — opening and using the system
How to open the system
- On the office computer, double-click the desktop shortcut “RSA Yahrtzeit System”.
- It starts the system if needed (a small window opens minimized — leave it alone) and opens your browser automatically.
- If the browser does not open by itself, type this address:
http://127.0.0.1:5599 - Sign in with your own username and password. Every action is recorded under your name, so never use someone else's login.
Running it twice is safe — the shortcut never starts a second copy; it just opens the browser again.
Who can do what (roles)
| Role | Can do |
|---|---|
| viewer | search and view only |
| editor | edit memorials and notification people |
| mailing_staff | generate letters, mark printed |
| email_sender | email previews/drafts (and sends, if enabled) |
| admin | everything, including users and backups |
Common problems
The page does not open.- Double-click the RSA Yahrtzeit System desktop shortcut again.
- Check the taskbar for a minimized window called “RSA Yahrtzeit Server” — if it is gone, the system was closed; the shortcut restarts it.
- Try typing
http://127.0.0.1:5599in the browser yourself.
- Check the username spelling; then ask the administrator to reset your password. Never share passwords.
- You are signed in but your role does not allow that action. If your job needs it, ask the administrator to change your role.
- Look in the browser's Downloads list first; the files also live in the
project's
output\letters\folder. - Only regenerate a batch if you understand the duplicate warning — the system deliberately refuses to double-print the same reminder.
- That is intentional: email sending is disabled by default. Use dry-run and Gmail drafts. Only an administrator can enable sending after Gmail setup (see GMAIL_SETUP.md).
- Nothing is lost. Double-click the desktop shortcut to start again.
During the pilot
- Do not mark letters printed unless paper actually printed.
- Do not enable email sending — drafts and dry-run only.
- Report anything odd on the Pilot page instead of working around it.
- Log out (top-right) when you leave the computer.
Who to contact
For passwords, roles, missing pages, or anything broken: contact the system administrator (the office admin-account holder). For data or halachic-policy questions (e.g. Adar dates), note it as a pilot issue so it reaches the right person.
Mode: production · this system runs only on the office computer and is not reachable from the internet.
